SALLY KNIGHT MSW, CYT, Certified Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga Teacher and Affliate Studio Owner

Someone gave me a gift certificate for yoga after the birth of my third son. That I was skeptical is an understatement. As a life-long distance runner and athelete, yoga didn't sound like my "thing". Maybe when I was "older"! Looking back, years later, that gift certificate was the gift of a lifetime. Developing and continuing a dedicated yoga practice changed my life. Period.
Yoga is about finding and creating balance, bringing all of you - your body, life, mind, relationships, spirit, everything into wholeness. The physical results came immediately. My body became toned, more flexible, and graceful as I released years of tightness, tension and stress. I slept better. I woke up pain free. My jeans fit!
But more importantly my life began changing in subtle but profound ways. I reacted less. I became more clear - on pretty much everything from what I felt, thought, and wanted to what was important, and what really mattered to me. I found I was more patient and present with my children, my husband, and myself. I feel less stressed by the demands of 4 active boys, their schedules, co-running a yoga business and teaching yoga. I find myself enjoying more - meaning actually being "in joy" more. My days are rich. I find time is slowing and I am more present, more ME.
Does this sound too good to be true? It's not. I see the same thing happening over and over to people everyday. What prompted me to co-found Yoga One with my husband is the desire to share yoga with the world. I wanted to create a space where people felt welcomed, accepted and challenged to do the hardest and most important work of their lives: regaining and creating the life of their lifetime, to help people not only live longer but to bring more life into life!
Yoga is not a religion or belief system. Yoga means "union". The physical poses (asanas) help reconnect you with yourself. The practice brings into awareness whatever is keeping you from being in your natural state of joy (and for those of us who've forgotten, yes, joy is our natural state of being!). So yoga can get your body into the physical shape of a lifetime as well as bring mental clarity, emotional health, and spiritual wellbeing.
I bow with love, gratitude and humility to my teachers: Baron Baptiste (Baptiste Power Vinyasa Yoga), Rod Stryker (Parayoga), Pandit Rajmani Tigunait (head of the Himalayan Institute), Sharon Gannon and David Life (co-founders of Jivamukti Yoga) and Jon Kabat-Zinn (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction). I also bow to the amazing group of teachers at Yoga One with whom I work, learn and grow. And finally I bow to the Yoga One students, who bring the yoga, every day, every class and teach me more than they will ever know.
Namaste!
