KARMA YOGA:
Karma Yoga June- Alexander Youth Network
Sports and Exercise Items for Kids
It is estimated that 1 in 5 children suffer from a mental health disturbance. These children deserve a chance at a normal life, and the Alexander Youth Network gives that chance to children here in Charlotte. The Alexander Youth Network was founded in Charlotte in 1888 as a rescue mission for women and children. In 1945, the agency began transitioning to serve children with emotional and behavioral problems. Today, they serve approximately 1,400 children a year in more than a dozen programs. They offer a comprehensive range of services through outpatient, residential and community-based programs. Alexander also operates a runaway youth shelter that takes kids in, cares for them and connects them to services in the area. All of their services strive to create healthy paths toward happy adult lives.
Playtime and exercise are included in many of the programs. Having time to play adds an element of normalcy to children’s lives, and the added benefits of physical activity (improved physical and mental health, socialization, decreased likelihood to use drugs, improved self-esteem and more) make it a critical component.
Throughout June, Yoga One will support this aspect of the Alexander Youth Networks services as our Karma Yoga. We will be collecting exercise and sports-related items such as pool items, balls (football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, kickball, soccer & playground) helmets, baseball gloves and bats. Other related items will also be accepted at the Karma Yoga collection barrel in the retail area. Thank you for helping us reach out to the Alexander Youth Network and to children in our community.
